My story 💕

Hey there! I’m Nellie, the quiet gal with the steady feet and the old soul around here. If you like the gentle ones, you’re probably gonna like me.

I come from the Amish world, and for a long time that’s all I ever knew. Early mornings, harness leather, wheels that needed pullin’, and a day measured by what got done. I’m a big mare, Percheron cross sturdy, with a little Standardbred grit mixed in too. Built to be useful, and I was.

But seasons change, and bodies do too. One day, the work they wanted… I just couldn’t do it the way they needed anymore. Not because I’m broke, mind you. I’m still strong and solid. I’m just older, and I earned my right to a gentler pace.

When I heard the word “retire,” I didn’t know what to think. Amish horses don’t always get fair endings, and I kept my heart tucked back a bit. Then Liz and Carson showed up, and they didn’t rush me none. They spoke soft, let me sniff, and looked at me like I was somebody, not just a job. And I thought, well now… ain’t that somethin’.

Now I’m here, learning what “safe” feels like, and I’ve even got horse friends. We eat hay, we nap, and we settle into the kind of quiet that feels like home. And yes… Charlie’s the big fella whose good looks may or may not have caught my eye. 😉

I’m still a little shy sometimes, but I’m curious too. I don’t give my trust away quick, but when I do, I mean it. So if you come ride with me, take it slow, speak plain, and let me look at you real good. We’ll have a calm, sweet time takin’ it easy down the trail together. ♥︎
