VOLUNTEERING

Our Volunteer Program
Our volunteers play a big role in the care of our horses and our guests. We are a public trail riding facility that works with rescue, senior, and special needs horses, so we are thoughtful about who we bring into our program!
You don’t need to be an experienced “horse person” to be here! We're looking for people who are willing to learn how we do things and put the horses first. 🐴💕
Minimum age for volunteering is 14 years old.

What do our volunteers do?

Volunteering here can help you understand the commitment horses demand, both the pretty parts and the messy ones. There is lots to learn in how you feed, vet, handle, observe each horse day after day.
Take a minute to read through the sections below and see if our volunteer program feels like a good fit for you!
If your main reason for volunteering is riding, this program will not feel like a good fit and that is okay. 💚 There are other facilities out there that offer that sort of opportunity. If you are excited to learn how to care for horses with all their quirks, needs, and personalities, you will do very well here!
Our Expectations
Please take a moment to read through our expectations when it comes to the horses, the guests, and the team so you know what it looks like to be part of our ranch here. 💚

The Horses
Our horses include rescues, seniors, and horses with chronic conditions or past trauma. It is important that our approach is consistent and safe without asking too much.
Our expectation is to:
-
Be calm and patient, listen first.
-
Use clear, consistent asks.
-
Give corrections that are firm and fair, never cruel.
Horses should not be allowed to:
-
Push or crowd in unsafe ways.
-
Ignore a request for space.
-
Become demanding or impatient, especially around feeding.
We will correct unsafe or impatient behavior, but always with the goal of helping the horse be more secure, not punished. Our volunteers must learn and use these horsemanship skills for everyone’s safety. 👍

The Guests
We are a public trail riding facility, not a private hobby barn. Our guests trust us with their safety and their experience, and volunteers are a big part of that.
Our expectation is to:
-
Treat guests with kindness and respect.
-
Be friendly and comfortable talking with others.
-
Stay as calm as they can during busy or stressful moments.
-
Be good with kids and adults, including nervous or first time riders.
-
Be patient with people who have special needs, autism, anxiety, or trauma.
-
Help guests feel supported and welcome.
We always have to keep both the herd and visiting families in mind. 🤲

The Team
When you volunteer here, you become part of our team and our barn family. How you show up with our family and other volunteers matters too.
Our expectation is to:
-
Listen to instructions and try your best to follow them.
-
Work as a team and help each other when things get busy.
-
Leave drama, gossip, and mean spirits at the gate.
-
Be willing to understand different perspectives.
-
Celebrate each other’s growth, wins, and new responsibilities.
-
Stay open to coaching without taking it personally, knowing it is about safety and consistency.
You do not need to be perfect, you just need to care about being a good teammate for the people and the horses around you. 💚
