My story 💕

Once upon a time, in a cozy little ranch that smelled of hay and sunshine, there lived a gentle giant named Hagrid (thats me!).. Oh, I reckon ya wouldn’t expect much from a horse with a name like mine! I’d be a Belgian draft horse, hefty and huggable, yet delicate in spirit. Let me tell ya a bit about me, all through the kind words of me humans, who see what’s in me heart.

Now, you see, I wasn't always as lucky as I am now. There was a time when things got a bit rough. I have what they call stringhalt, y’know? It’s a condition that makes me hind legs act a bit funny – kind of like a dancer who’s had too many jugs of apple cider! When I walk or make a turn, me legs can jerk up oddly, and I can hear the occasional wee chuckle behind me back. But trust me, it’s just the way I was made; nothing to do with me spirit!

When I first came to this ranch, I bet they looked at me and thought, “Oi, what a big lad!” And they were right! They’ve been so good to me, making sure I get me exercises – nice and easy, mind you – to keep me fit and not too stiff. A gentle massage here, a bit of chiropractic work there... Oh, it’s a right treat to be pampered like this!

Aye, I may not be the most graceful of horses, as I’ve got a history of a rather harsh training that made me more anxious than a Niffler in a room full of shiny objects. I shiver at the thought of training on me left side– that’s where the one who shall not be named used to come at me. But me new humans are patient and kind, teaching me things at a pace I can bear, helping me regain trust I thought was lost forever.

Me front hooves? Well, they’ve got side bone. It happens when a horse like me works too hard while wearing metal shoes on hard ground – so unfortunate! And let’s not forget about me teeth; they’re in a right state, all worn down from not having proper care. The precious cartilage in me hooves got all calcified, and me bad teeth make munching a right challenge, but me new caretakers keep a good eye on me hooves and me mouth, making sure I stay comfy and can eat with ease.

Now, folks often ask how long I’ve got left, what with me size and all... but I prefer not to dwell on that. Instead, I aim to live each moment as joyfully as I can. I’ve got a heart as big as me frame, and oh, how I love meeting new friends! I’ll ask you perfectly for a treat with me nose, making ya feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

When ya ride with me, I must insist on kindness! Show me patience, and I promise you’ll feel the magic we create together. With every gentle step, I’ll take you on a journey like, teaching ya to savor each moment, as life is too fragile to rush – isn’t that right, dear friends?

So, if you ever find yourself at the ranch and see me – remember me name, Hagrid. I may not be perfect, but in me heart, I’m as grand as any steed can be, ready to share some love, trust, and a few special moments, one gentle step at a time.
